Tech industry expert Chris Schwenk breaks down the hottest jobs in the tech sector. Plus, he discusses the impact data collection has on all of us and how AI will shape the world over the next ten years.

What are the tech jobs that are most in-demand right now:

“I’s a massive umbrella. I would say anything data related. We’ve seen how valuable data is, really with the social media companies. That made everyone realize that data is the most valuable resource that we have now. So, companies have been scrambling to catch up. Retail companies, mortgage, real estate … everyone wants that data and to hyper target the customer.”

Tik Tok was ahead of the curve:

“TikTok totally changed the game and now they’re all scrambling to catch up to them because of the For You page. The For You page is not necessarily people you follow, it’s what the platform thinks you want. So, they’re like brain hacking you and that’s where things kind of get very dangerous because it’s not just stuff that you want to see.”

Cybersecurity is more important than ever:

“Cybersecurity has many different sectors, and these companies are spending well. They don’t always spend a ton of money until there’s a public hack, and then the CFO and CEOs get on the phone … and they (essentially) just write a blank check. They basically say, ‘Fix this! I don’t know what’s going on, just fix this!’ So yeah, massive need.

A critically important job interview tip:

“You should definitely walk through your resume and refresh your memory on some of that stuff. Walk through your resume and kind of get it down like a routine. I talk about like, kind of make it like a Dave Chappelle routine.

Make sure you’re not rambling about it because if you don’t practice it out, it’s just not going to come easy to you to discuss it. You’re probably going to have to think about things. You want it to just be natural.”

Where will artificial intelligence be in ten years:

“I think they’re going to try to replace a lot of people, and it’s going to end up being too much. And, then the companies are going to swing back to the employees a bit.

I think you are going to feel some more pain this year. They’re going to keep trying to replace people, thinking, ‘We could do more with less.’ And eventually some companies are going to be kind of the guinea pigs that are going to get slaughtered and they’re going to have to try to rehire the people. It’s going to be a mess because I think things move faster these days. So, you could succeed fast, but you could also fail very fast as well. And I think that’s going to happen. It’s going to scare companies back.”

What’s the common denominator of founders or employees that have success in the tech space:

“With careers, you could treat it like a job, or you could treat it like it’s your business. And if you’re not learning, like entrepreneurs … it’s like all the stuff that they do, the marketing knowledge, the sales knowledge, the personal brand. When you put all that stuff into a career like tech, it just sets you apart so much. So, I would say it’s the people that are treating it like that.”
